NEW MEASURES TO REINFORCE THE ACADEMIC ENVIRONMENT of the LRC
To help facilitate students and staff the Institute has undertaken a number of measures which are designed to reinforce the use of the LRC as an academic and learning environment and to minimise any disruption to scholarly activities. Further details of the individual measures are given below. Users of the LRC are asked to co-operate with these initiatives and to respond appropriately to any requests made by Institute staff in this regard.
The biggest change to occur is that there is now a large enclosed area on the LRC Ground Floor specifically to accommodate students and staff who wish to work individually and with minimum interruption. Needless to say, no conversation is permitted in this area. A booking system for this facility will be introduced if necessary.
All 16 computers on the Ground Floor are now designated 'One Person Only' operation. Users who wish to carry out collaborative PC work with colleagues should avail of the computers on either of the other floors. All Ground Floor computers are now also available to be booked in advance. Booking may be done at the main library desk.
It is planned to provide a new information / enquiry desk on the Ground Floor opposite the new study room. The main aims of this peak-time service are to:
Make library staff more accessible to users
Enhance the quality of responses to enquiries
Allow for more one-to-one assistance
Provide a supervisory presence in the open reading area
The use of mobile phones is not permitted in the LRC. Phones should be switched off before coming in and should not be switched on again until you have exited beyond the security barriers. No messages, no calls, no texts, no games, no exceptions.
A special printed newsheet detailing the changes has been made available.
